We fought. [ He smiles bright. ] To properly show off Nen abilities, it's easiest to do in fighting than in demonstration.

All the basics and even the more advanced abilities... we fought one another. Not to the death, of course. [ Gon isn't yet at that point~ But one day~ ] He was able to use his abilities to kick up a stone slab and kick it square in the middle... shattering it into enough pieces to hide himself behind.

He used that to get the drop on me... in order to get closer to someone who has higher skills than him. He figured out how to use even the terrain to his advantage. It's a good memory for me, because it shows how much that person has grown. It means that he'll just continue to improve his abilities.

Do you cultivators do the same? Battle one another to show off your skills?

[ He holds his chin in thought. ] Mm, I suppose some do.

[ But him, personally? No. The desire to fight is very much a martial god thing. Xie Lian would find this story very interesting, he's sure!
