[Vanitas is seated with his chin propped up in one hand when the video comes on. He looks significantly calmer (and less Sanguis-y) than the last time he made a post like this.]

Bonjour. I've done this once before, but I feel as though I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I just relied on snooping and idle gossip.

[He straightens up, a hand going to his chest with an undeniably cocky grin.]

So! My name is Vanitas and I am a doctor to vampires, although I myself am just an average human. In an attempt to better understand the nature of the world we currently find ourselves in and those that all of you are from I have a request! I'd like to hear all of your "legends" about vampires. It's become clear that despite the wide variety of worlds represented here vampires are a reality in very few, so I'm curious about where your preconceived notions of them stem from.

Of course if you yourself happen to be a vampire or personally acquainted with any I'm even more interested in you. Don't hesitate to come forward and chat with me, I'll even be accommodating if you want to do so anonymously.

[ St. Germain pauses. Honestly, that sounds pretty awful. But fear of death isn't something he's ever had, so this hardly worries him. ]

That certainly sounds unpleasant. Do the vampires you cure return from those episodes, or is death the ultimate salve?

I can cure a vampire completely unless their true name has been tainted too severely. In those unfortunate cases death is a mercy.

I see. So their names are what keep them tethered, in a sense?

How fascinating. I doubt such afflictions exist where I'm from, but I'd be fortunate to have your aid were that the case.

More or less. A vampire's true name is at the essence of their being so having it interfered with is extremely detrimental. Most are told to not share it with anyone under any circumstances.

Curses have been running rampant recently in my world, but for the moment I don't believe it's possible for them to exist or spread here.

Understandable. That's not the case for me, but there's still something to be said about keeping ones true name hidden.

[ God, if knowing Vlad's true name would solve all his problems, that'd be great. ]

That's reassuring to hear. I'd hate to catch something.

Names can certainly come with unpleasant ties.

[He understands that intimately.]

Well even if you did I'd bring you salvation, so there's no need to fear~

[ Since he gave him his 'name' then St. Germain will oblige. It's only polite, after all. ]

I am called le Comte de Saint-Germain. I'll commit your name to memory, but I'm afraid the chances of my ever needing your services are extremely slim.

[Vanitas can't help but laugh at actually being called "Doctor". Generally he gets called a "quack". If only Dante were around so he could rub that in his smug little face.]

Enchanté monsieur. And you should consider yourself fortunate if you never need my services, vampires are very rarely happy to be treated by me.

Moi aussi. And understandably so.

[ Honestly when you've lived long enough, you learn to take vampire shit seriously. Plus, if that ever happened to him, he really wouldn't have a clue where to start. Maybe it's nice to hear humans say they know about vampires, rather than claim it's all nonsense. ]

You wished to know about legends, yes? Where I am from, the legends hardly have very little in common with the genuine article.

That's right! I'm interested in the commonalities between the myths and how they differ from the reality in other worlds.

[Most vampires in his home would have attempted to hunt him down and kill him from the moment they heard his name, so it's much easier to not deal with that. Of course saying it out in the open was admittedly using himself as bait, but he's done worse.]

It's curious that there are such drastic differences prevalent even in places where vampires do exist, though. Although I suppose that could simply speak to your skills at remaining undetected.

[ Sometimes you gotta be like that, Vanitas. Some people like straightforward dudes, at least. ]

We're very careful about what we share, you see. The most important part of spreading those legends has been insisting on weaknesses we don't have. We wouldn't want humans to suspect and grow weary of us. They're always quick to raise a torch when they learn that there's something stronger than themselves, but all they'd do is injure each other if it truly ever came to such a thing.

[Vanitas scoffs.]

You're definitely not wrong. Humans are always eager to jump at the chance to destroy anything that threatens their narrow understanding of reality.

It's a rather sad blemish on an otherwise beautiful race.

[ For all that they can suck, they're not all bad, either. ]

"Beautiful"? [He laughs.]

I can't say I've ever heard humanity described like that.

The longer one observes them, the easier it gets to view their many achievements with an objective eye.

[ He's not so jaded that he thinks humans are a waste. Though he knows some who disagree. ]

They create great works of art, music, theater... for all their cruelty, they can also create great joy.

[On the other hand Vanitas is very jaded.]

Do you really think that makes up for everything? You can weigh things like that against genocide and pride and all of their attempts to play God?

One thing does not make up for another. A fire is no less beautiful because of its ability to burn.

[ He just thinks humans are neat. ]

Hm. I guess our opinions on that matter will simply have to differ.

[As a human (mostly) he has to saw "ew".]

Indeed. Many of my peers would agree with you. I'm something of an outlier on this stance.

[ Which makes him a great otome character, in other words. ]
