Bonjour. I've done this once before, but I feel as though I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I just relied on snooping and idle gossip.

[He straightens up, a hand going to his chest with an undeniably cocky grin.]

So! My name is Vanitas and I am a doctor to vampires, although I myself am just an average human. In an attempt to better understand the nature of the world we currently find ourselves in and those that all of you are from I have a request! I'd like to hear all of your "legends" about vampires. It's become clear that despite the wide variety of worlds represented here vampires are a reality in very few, so I'm curious about where your preconceived notions of them stem from.

Of course if you yourself happen to be a vampire or personally acquainted with any I'm even more interested in you. Don't hesitate to come forward and chat with me, I'll even be accommodating if you want to do so anonymously.

A 'doctor to vampires'?
Is this a condition that can be cured?
Forgive my ignorance, I am not too familiar with them, despite knowing a few.

Vampirism is not a disease, no, but there are certain ailments that only afflict vampires.

Those are my specialty.

So you cure them like a normal doctor would cure a human?
I was under the belief vampires were able to heal themselves once they feed on blood.

More or less.

Vampires do have accelerated healing, but the type of disease I cure isn't something like a cut on the leg or a cold. If it isn't dealt with quickly the afflicted vampire will lose their mind to bloodlust, dying either by burning themselves out or being hunted down and slaughtered like an animal.

I understand.
It is a very honorable thing to do. If I come across a vampire in need of help, I will make sure to direct them to you.

To respond to your initial inquire, I believe the 'vampires' of my world are called Dead Apostles, in fact.
While I do not possess much knowledge about them, or what one would call a 'normal' vampire, I know a woman who seems to be one.
I'm not quite sure whether she feeds on blood, but she seems to bear a deep hatred for humanity - mostly due to how they've treated her than something else.

I can't say that I blame her for her resentment. Humans are quick to turn on anything they don't understand or that's different than them, it's more convenient for them to hate or fear as opposed to opening up their limited world views.

But how do you spot one of these "Dead Apostles"? Do they look like regular humans to the untrained eye?

Unfortunately, what you say is true. Humans, imperfect as they are, do not possess the wisdom to measure the different between themselves and what is not 'human'.
Even as they worship another, their belief can often cause harm.

I do believe they can easily disguise themselves among humans, yes, though for those who are keen on magic, they possess a different feeling to them.
As someone experienced in caring for the well-being of vampires, should I believe you have a keen eye for differentiating humans and vampires?

Their ignorance will get them wiped out eventually. Not that vampires are much better.

I see. So they're not completely impossible to distinguish if one knows what to look for. And of course! For the most part vampires where I'm from are also indistinguishable from humans unless they're careless with using their abilities or drinking blood, but there are a few other ways to spot them.

I believe so. I apologize for not being more of help.
However, may I ask which other ways exist to recognize a vampire in a crowd of humans?
I am rather curious about your field of expertise.

I've come across plenty of people even less useful here, so you're leaps and bounds ahead of many. My expectations were fairly low.

Well the most obvious sign is the fangs, but of course they aren't always evident and careful vampires can avoid drawing attention to them. The eyes are the other quick way to spot them- a vampire's eyes will glow red in the dark.

... Isn't being a vampire already a curse? Do they like, get doubly cursed?

Ah, so is vampirism a magical affliction where you're from as well?

Because that's not exactly the case in my world. Vampires are born vampires, and the sorts of curses I cure affect only them.

Well, in our stories it's all magical and what now. So, I guess? [She killed a vampire child and mother, so maybe it was a born thing? She didn't have time to ask the child who ate other children.]

Are... they nice, your vampires I mean?

[Vanitas hums thoughtfully over that question, expression going a little solemn.]

Really they're not much different from humans.

[And then he's all smiles again, grinning cheekily.]

I have indeed noticed the Dead Apostle who I have mentioned to you seem to possess rather prominent fangs.
Her eyes are naturally of a red color, however.
Do they tend to express a different behavior than humans, that you may have noticed?
It's peculiar that they so often try to disguise themselves as humans, despite bearing some hatred for them. I'm hardly allowed to express an opinion on the matter, but I can't help but think they might simply wish to live among humanity.

Eeh!?! Why don't they like you?! You're so nice!

[He blinks before just. Bursting into laughter.]

[But after a moment he seems to calm down, chuckles fading.]

As for your question... My name carries quite a reputation with it. Many vampires dislike me because of the associations they make with my name.

Fangs seem to be a commonality in vampires no matter their origin.

There's a different level of pride and confidence, but that's mostly because vampires consider themselves superior to humans. And given their abilities and strength they aren't exactly wrong if you compare them in that way.

I wouldn't exactly say that they want to "live among" them... Of course there are some vampires who want to wipe out all of humanity, but for the most part I think they just want to be left alone.

Almost everyone I've ever met would be inclined to disagree with you, Mademoiselle.

I share the name of a vampire who sought to destroy the rest of its kin. They had been shunned by all other vampires and cursed them out of hatred, so I suppose you could say it's natural that they all distrust and resent me.

[Quite literally, in that sense.]

Well, I make my own opinions on someone, not what others have to think about someone, and so far you've been plenty polite and made a good first impression.

It's treated me pretty well so far! [And hey ya know, if need be she'll handle it as Sailor Moon. But she wouldn't be Usagi if she didn't try to befriend everyone.]
