[Vanitas is seated with his chin propped up in one hand when the video comes on. He looks significantly calmer (and less Sanguis-y) than the last time he made a post like this.]

Bonjour. I've done this once before, but I feel as though I wouldn't be doing my due diligence if I just relied on snooping and idle gossip.

[He straightens up, a hand going to his chest with an undeniably cocky grin.]

So! My name is Vanitas and I am a doctor to vampires, although I myself am just an average human. In an attempt to better understand the nature of the world we currently find ourselves in and those that all of you are from I have a request! I'd like to hear all of your "legends" about vampires. It's become clear that despite the wide variety of worlds represented here vampires are a reality in very few, so I'm curious about where your preconceived notions of them stem from.

Of course if you yourself happen to be a vampire or personally acquainted with any I'm even more interested in you. Don't hesitate to come forward and chat with me, I'll even be accommodating if you want to do so anonymously.

I am, but they don't believe that. Most of them think I'm the source of their curses.

[He chuckles.] Wariness and paranoia are breeding grounds for hatred and fanaticism. Many vampires have been slaughtered thanks to the Church starting fear-mongering among the masses.

How terrible...
I don't presume to speak on the situation in your world, but I know that in my own, there are... cycles of oppression and violence that seem intractable. There are parts of the world where a person who is born with the ability to use magic will be shunned, cast out, even killed... and nations where magicians are exploited, oppressed, or used as scapegoats. In one kingdom, the situation grew so untenable that there was a revolt, and in the end the magicians themselves took control. Their aim was to create a nation where magicians could live free from prejudice, and never again be forced to submit to oppression...
...but in order to maintain the system they created, the rights of many thousands of nonmagicians had to be sharply curtailed. The injustice was not purged from the country, but simply redirected. I know that somehow there must be a solution, but it is difficult even to imagine.

...I suppose that things between vampires and humans might be... a little like that.

That's not too inaccurate I guess, both situations are just stemming from people not being willing to acknowledge that they might not be the most powerful thing out in the world anymore. And there are plenty of those who are eager to exploit that fear and work all of the idiots into a frenzy to push their own agendas and vie for more power. They're all set in their ways, even if logic or reason try to show them differently.

It makes me sick. They're all just hypocrites who aren't any different from one another in the end.

It's often very strange... what people choose to do with the gift of life.

But we must do what we can! And it sounds like that is exactly what you are doing. May I ask how you came to take up this line of work?

I took it up because no one else can do it.

Why not? Is it very difficult?

Well it is rather difficult, but I'm also the only one who can use the form of treatment I utilize. It won't work for anyone else.

Why? Is it something like... a power that chooses its wielder, or an ability that depends on an inherent characteristic that only you possess?

I guess you could consider it an inherent characteristic.

In any case... have you been able to learn anything interesting from other commenters to this post? Unless you would rather not talk about that either, of course.

Well there seem to be at least a few vampires who are willing to talk to me, which is new. The last time I tried this no one would, or there simply weren't any vampires around at the time.

Either way it's productive at least to hear about the variations between those from my world and others.
