Bonjour. I have a question for you all, if you'll indulge me.

How many of you here are immortal? Whether it be by natural means or otherwise. How do you feel about your immortality?

You don't need to tell me how or why you are, I'm simply curious. I myself have lived for 500 years, so I'm looking for kindred spirits, one might say.

Of course if you're not immortal and you know someone who is, I'd be glad to hear that as well. This platform was made to share opinions, correct? I'd enjoy having everyone's different perspectives.

Now that is indeed a very long time. If you are denied your passage from this world, is your condition due to some kind of curse, like so many I've heard?

[hauhra]

You could say that, yes... though it's not because of my actions that I was cursed. No, it's all the fault of an evil, power-hungry Pharaoh, who had my people's souls cursed even though we buried his ancestors for centuries to create seven magical treasures, and that's why I'm being forced to live forever now.

[ Bakura has never done anything wrong ever in his entire life. It's all the Pharaoh's fault. ]

[ That sounds very complicated and definitely not in any way related to card games. ]

A pharaoh's curse, then. It seems as though, across the many worlds, immortality is more often a cruel sentence than a proper gift.

Have you made any attempts to lift your curse?

[hauhra]

Yes... many, in fact. Unfortunately, each time the Pharaoh seems to walk free. It's as though he truly is as divine as they say, and so Lady Fate always sides with him.

And what about you? Is it a cruel sentence in your case as well?

[levampere]

That is a shame. Fate can be a fickle mistress.

In my case, my species is immortal by nature. We are born into this world like any other, and merely stop aging upon reaching adulthood. I've known I would be this way since I was a child, though I obviously didn't understand the true repercussions of it until much later in life.

[hauhra]

I suppose it's only natural that a God like Shai would side with another God even though no God can refute Shai's will.

I see. So technically speaking, you weren't human at any point in your life, then. But what is your species called? It all sounds very interesting.

[levampere]

Perhaps your gods are not so different from the mortals they watch over, after all.

That's correct. I am a vampire.

Now there's a possibility... and one that makes a person question their right to reign over their supposed realm, at that.

And is that right? I guess in a world like this one, anything is possible. Are all the legends about a vampire bite turning its victim into one themselves untrue, then?

[levampere]

Any gods in my world have never made themselves known, so I can only speculate.

In a manner of speaking. The legends are only party true—some vampires can turn humans, others cannot. But that's just one of the many misconceptions that exist about my kind. Misinformation is a helpful too to keep humans from trying to find us.

For better or for worse, their powers were locked away by the very same Pharaoh who had cursed me... as a result, their influence seems to have lost much of its original significance. The only reason I'm still at their mercy is because in my world, they alone decide who can and cannot enter eternal paradise... this world, by comparison, appears to be much more generous.

And if that's true, then how is it that vampires can reproduce? Can only those vampires capable of turning humans accomplish that?

That's quite a world you live in. I'd hate to have such a thing controlled by some known being.

That's correct. Pure-blooded vampires are not undead. We are very similar to humans, biologically.

When you put it that way, that actually makes a lot more sense. Can't reverse death if you were never even given the chance to live in the first place, after all. Thank you for clearing up that misconception for me... though I can only assume that you're comfortable being forthcoming about it in this world because humans are much less of a threat here by comparison.

Precisely. And yes, the very first thing the Prismal Government provided me upon my arrival was a supply of blood pills and instructions on how to obtain more. They certainly don't seem to mind those of us with unusual eating habits.

[hauhra]

On a planet that can draw people from other worlds and give them beastly features even when they had none before, bloodsuckers and ghosts are probably the least of the locals' worries.

My thoughts exactly. It's a fine change of pace.

Le Comte de Saint-Germain. A bit of a mouthful, but Comte is perfectly fine.

Are vampire's names usually so long?

It's actually a title. I am the Comte from Saint-Germain, which is a region of France.

I've gone by it for so long, I'm afraid I don't use my given name at all.

[ Bakura doesn't know what that means!! Or that his country is actually part of La Francophonie in modern times but shhh. Let him butcher French in peace. ]

Don't use because you no longer identify with it, or simply don't remember after not using it for so many years?

[ St. Germain can't imagine an earth where France is not the major focus of the world, at least Bakura could make fun of his horrible accent in Japanese. ]

Who can say? The only ones beside myself who know are very, very far from here.

[ To be fair, knowledge of the world beyond Egypt's immediate borders was largely restricted to the upper classes -- but even then, the concept of France didn't really exist and Bakura only knows of it via osmosis through his former host. ]

And if they were to show up here all of a sudden? What would you do then?

[ What would he do if Vlad or his ilk showed up here...? Besides worry incessantly, that is? ]

I think we'd have greater things to worry about if they showed up here. They're not nearly as companionable as I am.
