[Video] Hair Spray, 80s Tentacle Version

Hey everyone! Konoka here. I've got a couple of questions I want to ask to everyone.

[ Konoka's cheery visage is the center of the screen as usual, but for those with keen eyes, they might notice that Konoka's hair seems... slightly more animated. Alive, even. ]

Well first off, is anyone around enrolled in school? I'm doing some magical research, and I realize that while I have a majority of the magical strength I had at home, I still don't really understand how a lot of this technology works. These phones are about the closest thing, and even those have quite a few features that I don't have around my time. I figure enrolling in the Academy might help me understand stuff better. What's their curriculum like?

And I'm still an understudy, but for those of you who do magic, what's it like to use? Does it work like it does at home? [ Konoka considers her words carefully, because she knows that Eva would sass her for talking too much about the intricacies of their own magic. ] Back where I'm from, anyone can use magic, but you had certain affinities that made certain elements easier for you to use. Water, Wind, Earth, Fire, Light... and Darkness, said to be origin magic.

I ask since I'm curious as to how magic's been affected by Chroma.

[ Eventually, with almost no movement from her hand, Konoka's hair almost slithers over her shoulders, and she begins to idly play with it. The source of this is one Dusklight Bracelet gleaming on one wrist. ]

Oh, on a more interesting note, my hair's turned into tentacles. It's surprisingly easier to take care of since it's tougher and doesn't tangle as much! Do you guys have any hair styles I should try?

On a more personal note, I'm thinking about getting the materials to make a pactio with someone. With a pactio, I could lend you guys a bit of my magic and an artifact that will help you protect one another... and me, probably. But I need to be sure that I can do one first. Are you interested?

[ Konoka's initial surprise revulsion tapered back all the way down to mild confusion. Which then shifted to amusement. ]

Ah, I wound up getting a basic one around the second time this happened. The new hair's too thick for my old comb, I found out.

I do like how much easier it is to play with though!

[ To show her point, she simply stroked it forward over her shoulders and began making a basic braid... which, once the pattern was done, the tentacled hairs covered the rest. What would normally take several minutes was done in several seconds. ]

[[He's just that good at talking to people... Said no one ever. At least she's not yelling at him the next go around.]]

Like a basic tentacle comb? They have tentacle combs? Tentacombs. Alright, no weirder than half the shit I've heard of around here.

[[With interest at least, he watches the video.]]

Oh. Holy shit that... is cool. You could even like fight crime during the night and have a cool name like Medusa. Or something else not snake like. I know it's not snakes but you could is the thing. If I was a criminal I wouldn't fuck with someone who could choke me like thirty times before I even got out "it's not what you think officer". Plus you wouldn't even need equipment you could just hunt really tall criminals and then you'd have insta cuffs to walk them back to the station. Maybe you'd even get a red phone to the commissioner.

[[He's sure he's played a video game or two where there were girls who used their hair to fight so it's a sound suggestion to him at least.]]

[ Konoka laughs at those suggestions. ]

I'm not a fighter... not a good one I'm afraid. I'm more a medic at home. It'll work as a nice self defense thing if I need it to, though!

How effective would this be as cuffs though...?

[ Just out of curiosity, Konoka undoes her braid, instead letting some of her hair wrap around her fists. She then attempts to pull her wrists apart while bound by her own hair. She feels this, but it doesn't hurt like some part of her feared. ]

Maybe it could work. Not sure I'd stake my life on that, though.

[[Huh, fancy that. Another life type player. He's finding them all out over in this place. Not only that but he's going to be brave today and risk video. Wearing his dark, mirror glasses, Dave is reclined on something looking like furniture with a large blanket snuggled around him. The red outfit barely visible around his neck. It's a lazy indoor day.]]

That's cool, I can work with mild mannered medic.

[[The blond shrugs his shoulder. Waiting to see what the verdict is on the cuff issue. Well, it's true, he doesn't think she's going to be fighting crime with it but...]]

If worse comes to worse- [[A finger raises and he shoves his glasses back up the bridge of his nose.]] -at least you have options? You could just whip your hair around and smack some bitches in the face instead. I'm sure being pimp slapped by hair would catch them off guard enough for you to get outta there until you could call for help.

[ Now that Konoka was looking at him, she had to say that she was rather amused by the smooth shades look. But aside from a mirthful look, she continued her casual conversation. ]

That sounds like a fair idea. Other people are always having to save me, so I feel like I should be able to at least make it less troublesome for them.

[ Konoka looked a bit embarrassed about it. ]

On the bright side, I've gotten much better about it recently!

[[He gets that a lot, it's a fair assumption the first time someone sees it. His attitude doesn't help and he wouldn't have been hurt by it. It's harsh lights he doesn't like, but they sure do look good ~~according to him~~. A tilt of his head is the only indication that his mannerisms have turned from his relaxed state to curious. He doesn't think she should feel embarrassed, but he's not entirely blind.]]

It's cool that you're getting better about it, I said to someone a few days ago y'gotta start somewhere. Like it's important as fuck to be able to protect yourself at a base level. So you just never... [[He shrugs his shoulder in a more nonchalant way than meant any other way.]] learned or no one taught you or...? Cultural thing? Worldular thing?

It's not that I'm terrible about it now, [ Konoka put her hands up, slightly flustered. ] I had a bad luck streak when I was younger, constantly getting kidnapped. And part of me blamed myself, especially since getting out of that trouble was...

Actually kinda romantic. But I didn't want to chase that sort of thing when everyone else was in danger, so I've been working on getting less vulnerable.

[ There might be further implications behind the word 'romantic', but Konoka didn't elaborate. ]

[[There's a small upturn of the left side of his lips, which on his otherwise stoic face is about as good as amusement get son his face. It sounds like a great many books he got read to him on a three year journey he had to endure. Thanks overly obsessed with romance stories friendo. At least he can use the information from the stories practically and owes said friend an apology over how he never would use the information. He stands corrected.]]

The Princess in another castle syndrome, huh? In fairy tales it's about knights or wizards or whatever rescuing maidens and all that kinda shit. Which I guess is cool. I get the appeal on a writing level at least.

[[He tilts his head back just a little and to the side, adjusting how he's curled in his comfy hermitcrab corner of the city. It's more that he's been up too late and now he's suffering the sleepy consequences that he's well used to.]]

But it's good you're outta that. Someone's still gotta rescue you and that puts their life on the line one day. Maybe not any've those times, but one'a those days. Plus, think of it this way...

[[Another small shrug of his shoulder somewhere beneath the blankets manifests itself in the form of said blankets sort of moving or shifting.]]

Someone else might think it's hot A F if you rescue them one day, so you still got your shot at it bein' a bit of the same. Just a different way of going about it.

[ Konoka's eyes light up, and she leans a little closer to the camera. ]

Yeah, you understand, right? I've got a romantic heart, and at some point I actually lived it. But I also realize that's too dangerous to rely on!

I imagine I could always do a pretend thing? I think they call that role play. All of the benefits and none of the drawbacks.

[[Dave actually looks like he's considering that question while she speaks. He's not sure that he get, gets it but the concept is there. He's had to watch enough romcoms and listen to enough similar story lined books to understand at least the basis. He tilts his head from side to side with an indecisive look on his face that mostly disappears after he's had a second or two to think about it. The cogs are still turning in his head and his eyes aren't directly on the screen. Feelings talk isn't easy.]]

I mean I don't not get it? Having someone care about you enough to go after you, or multiple someone's but I'm betting it's better if it's a single someone... I can see the appeal to be given a damn about so...

[[His head finally turns back enough to indicate that his eyes have certainly returned to the vision on the feed.]]

I get that much?

[[The smirk from earlier returns momentarily and he raises an eyebrow, tilting his head once in a quick gesture. She's funny, not so much a haha at the moment, but it's good memories when someone's riled up about things where stories collide.]]
Yeah I guess you could. You just out to find yourself a storybook, is that what it is?

[ Well, he almost got it. For now, that was good enough. Maybe another day, when she talked to him again, she'll explain it. But for now, she continued to idly play with her hair, pulling up the end of it and letting it slither around a hand while she continued to talk. ]

I was part of a "Library Exploration Club" back home. When I was younger I was a big book geek. Even now, while it's not the strong obsession it once was, I still enjoy a good book.

I don't know if I'm looking for a book like that. Or rather, it's not the top thing I'm thinking of.

[[An almost is good enough. No need to give the third degree to the lady at any rate. He's doing a good job of not letting off some sort of bemused tone at any kind of exploration club. Thankfully she keeps saying something after it or the situation might have been a rambling difference.]]

A'ight, a book geek. I can get behind that. I'm more a web comic guy myself, but I got a friend like that who likes to read. So if that's not your top book genre, what's your top book genre?

Mmmmm, probably adventure books. Nothing like reading about people's adventures. And after having my own, it's like seeing a new perspective!

[ Konoka smiled, tapping her head thoughtfully. ]

Though to be honest, romance books are still pretty high up there. Seeing people get romantic, trade cheeky or cute banter, it never gets old.

[ Konoka thought she was gonna hint that her priorities weren't books, but to be honest... she liked this conversation anyway. ]

[[Nodding his head thoughtfully, he sits up a little more, dragging the blanket with him if only by the movement of sitting.]]

I can get behind that one too. More exciting when there's some explosions and shit like that, something that's goin' to get your heart a thump just to know what's happening next.

[[His eyebrow raises in eye shot from the angle over his glasses.]]

Said friend and you'd get along good then. His name's Karkat and he's loud as fuck and obnoxious at first glance. But, he likes that kinda sappy stuff too. It's an alright go, I guess. I read a few recommendations he gave me.

[[Read as Karkat read them, he can't read Alternian.]]

M'Kay. So I know you're chill af about getting hairacles, I know you like cheesy romancey things, I know you like a good ol' fashioned adventure. What else am I gonna wring on out?

[[It's his turn to look thoughtful.]]

Favourite music. Important topic, totally judge-able just forewarning. I can't promise what I'm goin' to say in return if I hear you say mumble rap.

[[The tone of his voice indicates a playful, pretend judging.]]

If he's around, I gotta meet him one day. He sounds pretty entertaining.

[ Konoka hadn't talked to too many boys who were into books. The next subject, however, Konoka actually had to pause and think around. ]

Uhhhhh... I'm partial to pop music I guess. I haven't sat down and listened to a ton of different music.

[ Konoka looked thoughtful and just a bit worried. ]

Some of my former classmates had some pretty good rock band covers though!

[[Mentioning Karkat, even if she isn't by name, seems to perk him up and the energy that he's been otherwise missing is revived in the thought of someone saying a positive about Karkat.]]

Yeah he's here. Karkat's a good guy, loyal as fuck friend and fun. Funny.

[[He takes a moment and a little longer smirk pulls at his lips, fondly at least.]]

And always angry sounding. And always sarcastic sounding. But when you actually need someone who gives a fuck about you, he's the first one there. No homo but he's a fuckin' amazing guy.

[[Don't let him tell you about ~~Homestuck~~ Karkat. They'll be there forever. He doesn't mind about the pause, music is important and it conveys a lot about a person. Not that Dave actually judges something like that aside the joke of saying he does.]]

Pop's good. It's an easy remix if you want somethin' harder or to play around with tone. They got a lot of good pop songs. Whoever 'they' are, anymore. But rock, huh? You like any of that, too? I can't see you being a metalhead. Or maybe I can, I don't know what your hair looks like when it's not slithering but I'm sure I could get the grove of seein' you whip it around to some GWAR.

[[He's doing a bit of light teasing, but if Dave isn't at least rambling at someone he sure doesn't like them.]]

Definitely not a metalhead.

[ She was at least aware enough of different genres to know that she wasn't into "harder" forms of rock. The show her classmates put on was obviously much softer.

But Dave passed a rather silly idea of her whipping her head around, and she giggled for that. ]

Sounds dangerous, especially with tentacle hair. I'm afraid I'm not into self-flagellation... Did I say that right?

[[He tilts his head as though he's considering something, but paired with the words it's in the same playful vein as the rest of what he's been saying has been.]]

Yeeeah. Now, see, that's just what someone who's a metalhead and doesn't wanna admit it would say. Hm. Unconvinced. You do have a point there, with the not wanting to tenta-nine tails yourself.

[[As for if she said it right or not. She gets a little nod and an under the breath response.]]

Hah! I'm just making sure I don't make a mistake! I read a lot, you know!

[ Konoka took his teasing good-naturedly. After all, she was kind of a tease herself, so she knew how that game worked. ]

If I were to ever take anything like that, I'd rather go find someone kinky that I trust. [ Like Marie. ]

It's cool. I watched Reading Rainbow, I know the power of a good book. I can't say I've got one that's gone and taught me those words. That was the internet's job.

[[It is. Cool, but also he's not sure how to not be unironic about something in a conversations like this where they're not making fun of it. It's an attempt at least. He keeps forgetting for some people it's an actual way of life here. One that he better either get used to or enjoy being crystallized which sometimes doesn't seem half bad in comparison to trying to let people too close.

I'll say. I think for any of that shit you got to at least trust the person part way. That's gotta be vulnerable as fuck. You gotta sit down or whatever, stand, and let someone be in the same room as you.

Admittedly, much of what I've learned from being kinky was learned through a combination of doujins my friend wrote and my research here. I wonder what kind of place the internet became in my future...

[ Because the internet being a kinky place sounded kinda scary, and yet not the least bit surprising, given this place. ]

[[There's another curious tilt of his head, not for the lack of internet surfing. A lot of people didn't do that back home, too. It's just people like him who were mostly shut ins.]]

Okay, you got me curious, I'll bite. What's a doujins? As for the rest, if it's anything like our internet was back then... probably a bunch of neckbeards and redditors m'ladying their way into the hearts of the masses. Or maybe not. Maybe your society didn't turn into neckbeards.

You can think of doujins as self made comic books! They're pretty popular to make where I come from, though they're not for everyone.

But... what's a neckbeard?

Ohhhhh shit. Yeah okay, I know what those are. They seem... okay? Just fanfiction in pictures which isn't too bad, that shit gets some people somewhere and hey, it helped out eventually for you right?

They're like basement dwelling man babies that try to get into the lives and pants of chicks that they think owe them shit. They know everything and they're smarter than you because they said so. Normally wearing a fedora and growing a beard down their neck. Neckbeard.

[ Konoka makes a face at that. Apparently, she was still very naive about the ways of the internet. ]

Chisame mentioned having fans like that once, but I had no idea there was a name for them. I haven't seen anyone like this in Lunatia so far, but I'll make sure to steer clear.
