Hello, fellow Moonblessed. If you'll oblige me with some of your time, I have a few questions about humans. That species is nonexistent where I hail from, so please forgive my curiosity, and I apologize in advance if any of these are rude.

1. Humans have no shells or carapace, and their clothing seems more decorative than protective. Am I correct in assuming that they use magic to defend themselves?

2. Do humans go through metamorphosis? I don't believe I have seen a human larva or grub here, though I admit I do not know how I would distinguish human young from an adult other than size.

3. Most humans that I have seen have hair primarily on their heads, rather than their whole body like, for example, a spider. Does that not make regulating their temperature more complicated?

Some of the more interesting parts of my anatomy are under my wings, besides.

Indeed I do.

Can you fly?

I can and frequently do.

That must be fun.

Humans can't fly unless they have special machines like planes to help them fly.

It is. You and all bugs who cannot take to the skies are worse off for not being able to do so naturally.

That's true! Without help, we're just stuck on the land :(

Are they any other animals where you come from?

[hagrides]

Besides various species of insects? The occasional arachnid, though they mostly remain in their home in Deepnest.

So no mammals? Dogs? Cats? No birds?

[hagrides]

Not a one. We also have jellyfish, though those are questionably sentient and almost certainly artificial.

Artificial?

Well, I guess you should be glad that's all you have. A lot of animals eat bugs, you know.

[hagrides]

I'm aware, yes. Cannibalism is distasteful but not unheard of.

[Divine... has her quirks.]

Yikes.

Yeah, humans don't eat each other. At least, not under any normal circumstances.

[hagrides]

Only in moments of desperation, I suppose?

[Whatever your qualms about cannibalism, it's better than starvation.]

[graftage]

Yeah, that. Or people who are just messed up real bad in the head do that sort of thing.

[hagrides]

With us it isn't viewed as quite so extreme. We all have our vices, and for some that vice is cannibalism.

[graftage]

I'd call it more of a "sin" than a simple "vice", but I guess things work differently where you come from.

[hagrides]

If they're already dead, then they'll feed you as well as anything and they can't be done any further harm.

If they aren't already dead, then there are more pressing concerns than the cannibalism.

[graftage]

Where I come from, you respect the dead and either bury them or turn them into ash. To eat them would be an insult to their memory, I think.

And yeah, at that point you'd just have huge issues.

I am pleased to inform you that murder is, in fact, still a bad thing.

[graftage]

Good to know. It's extremely bad where I come from, too.

[sweats at all the people he's murdered]

[at least acknowledging that it's bad is better than saying 'murder is okay if you get paid for it'?]

I imagine such is the case in most societies. Though there are bound to be exceptions, I doubt those communities would last very long.

I guess it's good that this place doesn't seem to have that kind of problem. I don't know what I would do if it did on top of all the other stuff we have to deal with, like the moons.

It causes quite enough of a headache as it is. I could do without gaining tentacles every Iris, I quite appreciate having hands.
