[A young lady with white horns poking through her bright pink hair appears to be sitting in her Level 2 apartment, with a galaxy backdrop. She fidgets in her seat.]

My name is Nyuu, but some of you may know me as Lucy. If I'm acting different, I can explain, um... [She wrings her hands around in her lap.] There's really no other way for me to say this without making it more confusing, but I have a split personality. The one called Lucy is asleep right now.

[As her eyes become downcast, she takes a deep breath.]

This is something I only learned about a year ago, and I'm still trying to figure things out, but I wanted to warn everyone about Lucy. I've heard in the past that she's... [the lump in her throat goes down] She's killed people before.

[A sad sigh as she sags in her seat.]

I swear I have no control over it, but I'll understand if any of you see me as a dangerous liability after this. That's all I had to say.

All types, honestly. From awful murderers who just did it because it would help their own goals to one of the kindest, gentlest people I know, who did it to protect others.

Since her motive is a mystery to you, all the more reason for me to talk to her and try to understand her. [Could it be dangerous? Possibly, but again the girl's tone remains unchanged.]

Oh, so that's why you volunteered to arrest Lucy.

[She flashes a tiny smile before her expression becomes serious again.]

Arresting her won't be too simple, though. If you arrest her, you'll arrest me as well since we share this body. Although...

[A small sigh]

I have woken up in jail once before thanks to Lucy.

[Thankfully, someone bailed her out that same morning.]

If you could share any information you get with me, I would appreciate it. Still, as much as I'd like the help, I don't want more people getting hurt because of me.

I'm sure we both don't want people getting hurt or killed. If I could prevent something like that from happening to someone, I would do so.

I would leave a note for Lucy so she isn't angrily surprised, but at the same time, I'm worried that will give her time to make plans on how to dodge the truth. I could at least tell you about her power, though.

It's something I can do too, though I've only just learned how. Basically, Lucy and I possess a type of psychic power. We can summon these strange arms--psychic limbs, so to speak--and they're quite strong. Not everyone is able to see them, I've noticed. To most normal humans, they're completely invisible.

Most normal humans... Then what of those who are not humans? Will we be able to see these psychic limbs clearly?

[A bit tentative to share this, but...]

... I have psychic powers of my own, though nothing like the limbs you speak of, as mine is only limited to reading minds and telepathy... Would she be fine with meeting someone with a common power of sort?

[Even more interested in this girl now. Girls, whatever. It's rare to find psychics in the grand universe.]

[Which is a relieving thought. This person won’t be taken by surprise if Lucy becomes aggressive.]

Based on what I’ve heard, Lucy shows more tolerance toward non-humans since we’re not human either, so you might have a better chance.

[The tone of her voice has perked up with hope.]

That’s really interesting, though, being able to read minds and use telepathy, I mean. I’ve never been able to do that, but I can’t speak for Lucy.

[Just to prove it, he'll switch it over to video so that Nyuu can see his young girl avatar. Yup, looks totally human.]

I could meet her in my non-human form, which is my real form, but I'm not sure if she'll be intimidated or not. Besides that, it's easier to walk around here like this. I hope she wouldn't mind it, but I'll be certain to mention my true nature to her.

It's a painful power to have, I would say. Useful, since I could hear everything around me that most can't, but it's painful having to hear everything around me... That said, I won't be reading Lucy's mind to find out about her motive. [Respect for privacy.]

Protecting others. I've been hearing that's a justifiable reason to kill, but--How can people bring themselves to dirty their hands with blood? Even if it is to protect others, aren't they afraid those same people may look at them differently afterwards since they're capable of such a thing?

[At least, that's what she fears for herself if Kouta ever finds out about Lucy back home.]

That's right! Detective Gumshoe's the name, and arresting people's one of my games!

[Then he pauses, frowning as he realizes her logic.]

Oh... You make a good point! If you two're the same, I'd be arresting an innocent person if I arrested her. That'd be unacceptable! [A beat.] Unless... You haven't done any crimes, have you?!

It's a really difficult line to draw, sometimes. When you're in a war... well, there were only about twenty people involved, so that's a pretty small war, but that's what we called it. Anyway, in something like that, you find out that you're capable of things you never would have guessed, and so are your dearest friends.

Sometimes, you have to start asking yourself what you hold against them... And what you can forgive.

Interesting... then you do have some way of communicating with her...

[But then the thought trails off into a small noise of surprise at Nyuu's question, and before he answers he can't help but chuckles.]

That is because I am an omnic, my friend- a sentient robot.

It might be best to have someone you can trust keep an eye on you and keep you out of danger, then. I’m guessing it’s some sort of protective response, although I have to admit, I’ve never encountered anything like this before.

[She quickly shakes her head while holding her hands out in front of her.]

N-No! I swear I've never committed a crime!

Okay, okay! When you say it like that, I feel like I gotta believe you! I... I declare you not guilty, pal!!

[There's a childlike excitement to her voice, but she soon catches herself, clearing her throat.]

B-But yes, I do. She doesn't always answer every question I ask her, though.

Ever since I've been away from home, though, I've noticed that the changes don't always happen during dangerous times anymore. They've become more unpredictable.

[She breathes a sigh of relief.]

Thank you, Gumshoe-san. But now you've gotten me curious. What do you plan to do if you ever run into Lucy?

Yes, but I can do more.

I don't think I'll be able to stop Lucy from killing, but I'm going to get better at using my powers so I can use them for defense and saving lives rather than taking them.

[A normal person might not share such plans, but this is Nyuu, still a little too naive for her own good.]

[warmly] It is very cool, yes. But... I suppose that is understandable, in its own way. Everyone is entitled to their own secrets- and perhaps, in your instance, it is a way of protecting yourself from an unpleasant truth.

[a pause.]

It does not sound as though you believe she is any threat to you.
