There are a whole lot of them all arranged nicely on a counter? And there are a lot of different flavors... mostly floral, but some fruity and some woodsy and whatnot.

I have found something wonderful, my friends. It's like Wan Shi Tong's library in the desert, except for good scents and hair care products. This-[he kind of pans over his haul]-is only a mere sampling of the offerings Moonlight Path and Body Works had for sale, and yet it's such a variety! It's not even that expensive! The stuff back home is expensive and there isn't quite as much variety! But it all smells fantastic. I just...

I need more. I spent a lot of money, but I want to buy one of each product. This is such a fantastic vacation that I did not actually sign up for, but maybe it is a vacation I needed. This... is a good time I'm having here.

Did you have much to do in your home world?

Oh, definitely. I hadn’t had a vacation in years, and honestly, I have been just a bit worried that I am going to go back home to find everything on fire and the city in the grips of an insane revolutionary government. But you know, it’s probably fine!

Do you work for your government? [Not the insane revolutionary one, of course.]

Yes, although it's a bit complicated.

Republic City is essentially a city-state that has appointed representatives from... well, technically the four nations, but both the Northern Water Tribe and the Southern Water Tribe have different representatives both in the interest of tie-breaking and because they're fairly different governmental entities at this point. I'm the representative of the Northern Water Tribe, so I serve on the City Council with the other four representatives to make decisions about the running of the city in terms of legislation, ordinances, high-profile criminal trials, and so on and so forth.

How was your government before you found yourself spirited here? No major conflicts, I hope?

[Because the French Revolution? That was a Time.]

Not within our government, aside from some mild ideological differences with one of the other council members. No, it's some group who thinks that all the problems in the world are caused by those of us who are benders, which essentially means we can control one of the elements depending on our heritage. They're basically just bypassing governmental ways they could deal with, say, real problems to terrorize the populace.
