I'd like to gauge the feelings of the general populace here on a matter very near and dear to my heart, so please bear with me here. I know that I'm not the only person this affects, so perhaps we ought to have this discussion.

After all, 'tis the season, I suppose; we all got that message a while back about getting our fair share of "Dracula dick."

I'd like to be sure they're not trying to end the world, or anything like that.

And that they're not going to lay a curse on me.

And that I know how they really look.

... I think that's it for special circumstances.

That's all perfectly understandable. There are many different types of undead in my world, and the answers you seek would differ considerably depending on what they might be.

Speaking from personal experience, some of the methods can be rather... dramatic, with what they do to you.
