Please forgive my curiosity, but I have heard about 'the season' and 'Halloween' a few times over the network, and since neither the time seems relevant to where I come from, nor the name familiar - would anyone care to explain what these two are about?

Haloween is the last day of the month, and isn't just a harvest festival. It's also a day when the barrier between the living world and the world of spirits is thinner, so people believed that ghosts and monsters can appear more easily. They carved radishes into scary faces to ward off the evil ones, though these days we use pumpkins instead.
It's also common to dress up as something scary or fantastical, and costume parties around this time of year are popular.
