... Hypothetically speaking, if someone were to look into finding somewhere to y'know. Spar. Train. Keep the rust off their fighting skills in case we get something worse than a sewer full of giant vines trying to swat us like flies for the hell of it. That kind of thing. Is there anywhere around here that would fit that kind of criteria?

What're the chances of half of those Knights they've got posted around here sticking their noses where they aren't wanted? Most of the Knightly types I've come across aren't the type to just nod and let a bunch of people waving weapons around get on with their day without throwing a tantrum.

And if that's the case and the chances are high... whereabouts here are they least likely to go snooping?

Or take the longest to get to. I'm not picky.

But if it's training and no one is actually hurt and you can explain as much then why would they stop it? I'm pretty sure they have more important things to do than keep checking.

You think? We have no idea what they want from us, and there are a more than a few of us with access to the weird and wonderful outside of whatever keeps causing us to go off kilter during moon cycles.

I'm not interested in getting into a situation where I could be pestered or prodded by people in the name of science, or whatever, when I could just keep out of their way entirely.

If that's what they wanted to do then would it really be a good idea for us to be allowed to wander around?

This place is more straightfoward than any I've been like it. That might mean anything though, I know.

If they rounded us all up and locked us in cells they'd have an angry mutiny on their hands. I'd rather not be overly trusting and get a nasty surprise further down the line.

... That and I just don't want to deal with a bunch of Knights.

The second reason is more understandable. I hope you can find one.

There are plenty of ways to hold this many people against their wills and not have it hurt the captor. This isn't one of them though. I don't trust them completely, but they aren't being suspicious yet so I don't want to cut off possible help.

Sure. And maybe they won't be suspicious at all, but... we are basically interlopers here, and we've already had a plant uprising happen since we got here.

Hopefully we'll keep being interesting enough for public opinion to not take a nose dive, but watch this space.

You mean it wouldn't be better for us not to be too interesting? Is that safer where you come from?

I'd say we're all pretty interesting as is and that's half the problem.

If you cause too much trouble, the Empire's cronies come down on you like a tonne of bricks where I'm from. Of course, what they define as "trouble" I'd define more along the lines of "problem solving".

It sounds like you are putting what you know as how things probably work here. Have the Knights here really given you trouble because you're trying to help?

[It's not that he doesn't believe you, he's just wondering if you're considering everything while waiting for the inevitable trouble.] Because the trouble's coming again.

Because I've found that finding yourself in strange places can mean that nothing works the way you knew.

And you don't, and then you get a nasty surprise when they do. I mean, if you're fine trusting and accepting it all then that's good for you.

I hope they do surprise me, in a good way. I just work better if I assume the worst of them.

I was only saying that keeping an open opinion might be safer than trusting or not trusting them outright. I've been in this type of situation a lot. And nothing worked like I thought it did. It never does.

But if not trusting anyone ever helps you then it does.

Bit presumptive of you. I trust people, I just don't do it because they smiled at me and gave me freebies.

You earn it, it isn't just given for nothing.

I feel like you're misreading my intent. To me, you made it sound like your experience with other places tell you this is the same. I was simply saying if that suspicion at the start keeps you safer then it's fair because of that. I wasn't trying to call you a mistrusting person.

I don't just give away my trust either. But we're different in how we do it.
