Considering people here have weird animal traits I wouldn't be surprised if your sense of smell only got stronger
I'm pretty sure you can be straight forward about that

[He's being super deadpan about this because he's just accepted the animal stuff by now.]

I would think you just tell them? And make sure you add that it's not because they smell bad too, and then it shouldn't be too weird.

dude i don't see what the problem is
just be upfront and tell him you like his scent
try to avoid getting all up in his business unless he lets you tho
because some people might not be into that all of a sudden
