Okay... I think this might work! What do you think, Chirithy?

[ventus has the camera propped up against something on the counter as he mixes together what looks like the dry ingredients for cookies. there's some flour stuck to his cheek and chiirthy perched atop his head and precariously leaning forward to peer into the mixing bowl. it raises a paw, as if about to say something when it just

tumbles

into the dry mix, sending flour and whatnot up into the air like a giant white cloud. it hits ventus right in the face and the camera's edges are touched with flour. chirithy pops up out of the bowl and laughs a little sheepishly.

ventus just sighs.]

I think... I messed up somewhere along the way.

[ See, Vanitas smells the burning. That's why he's making an entrance to investigate. But seeing those terrors on the sheet? He's snorting. Amused. ]

Wow, Vents. I didn't know you were into poisoning people.

[ And then he's laughing. ]

Or did you take up weaponsmithing?

[vents??? god damn it, vanitas. he shoots him a frown, cleaning up some of the mess leftover on the counters.]

Ah... So you do want me dead.

[ Not even going to give Ven the satisfaction of knowing that little pet name is going to get on his nerves. ]

I knew you'd come back around on that eventually.

Vanitas, stop.

[he doesn't want to even joke about that right now.] Look, they aren't completely ruined-

[but he's cut off when he looks over to see a flour-covered chirithy suddenly appear and land on vanitas' head with obvious glee.]

[ And he stops. Because now there is something on his head. Something round, soft, and whose voice grates on his last nerve.

Not to mention he is now covered in flour. Even though his expression is flat, it should be noted that his hands are balling into fists. ]

Ventus. Get your Spirit off of me.

Oh, Chirithy-!

[ven hurries over to pluck the spirit off of vanitas and chirithy actually looks... sad about it.]

They're your Spirit too, Vanitas. [he says it a little more quietly, holding chirithy with a small frown.]

[ That takes care of one problem but now there's another. Vanitas is looking down at himself, all covered in that white substance. It might drive him nuts. ]

Maybe a long time ago. It's waited for you, not me.

[ And yet he knows that Chirithy had waited, eh? ]

They waited for both of us.

[chirithy seems to deflate a little at vanitas' tone, but says nothing just yet.]

That hasn't changed.

[ Vanitas inclines his chin. As if to say "fine then. prove me wrong." He doesn't see how he can be wrong, but at least he is going to allow an opportunity. That's more than what he's done in the past at any rate. ]

[chirithy waves a paw, their face twisted minutely in concern.]

It's true! I couldn't wait for one without the other, after all. You're both equally important to me!

[ventus looks to vanitas with a sigh.]

[ Don't sigh at him Vents. ]

Even though there was no guarantee that one of us might not have come back at all?

[he'll do what he wants, vani-wani.]

I'm bonded to you both, even after being separated... there's nothing that can break that bond.

[it's moments like this ventus wishes he could remember something from before... everything happened.]

See, Vanitas? Chirithy is just as much my Spirit as they are yours.

[ ~~Wrong moon cycle.~~ One day he is going to make a really bad name for you, Venty. Just saying. ]

I don't feel particularly bonded.

Have you ever tried calling Chirithy to you?

[at least work with them, vanitas.]

[ Why would he have bothered with something like that Ventus? ]

[he holds chirithy up, smiling a little.]

Why not try now?

[ Just stands there making an irritated noise through his nose. ]

This isn't going to work. I don't even...

[ Vanitas immediately shuts up and looks away. He doesn't know what Ventus means by calling out with his heart. It's not something he's done before. ]

You don't know that until you try. [he says it quietly, because he wants this to happen - he wants vanitas to have this.]

Master Invi helped me... If I just focus with my heart then Chirithy will come to me. Just- try and focus?

[ Vanitas is already trying to brush off the flour and has taken to pacing. Why is he even indulging in this nonsense? It doesn't benefit him in any way. So what if the Spirit does end up coming to him, that they are still bound? All that it means is that Ventus and himself are still linked but not one. ]

This is stupid.

[ Of course his conflicting thoughts and feelings are going to have an adverse effect. Ven might want to be prepared. ]

[all ventus can do is watch vanitas pace the room, chirithy looking on with a worried expression which might look a little silly when they were still covered in flour.

it feels like they're walking over a minefield.]

Why is it stupid?

[ See, the darkness is wavering around Vanitas right about now. Shifting. Warping. There's a good chance that one of his Unversed are going to be born from this. Vanitas is certainly worked up enough for it. ]

Because it is! I can't be whole and you want me to call out to this thing that was ours!? I can't go back! I can't go forward!

[ He knocks an appliance off of the counter top. Doesn't care if he breaks it. Then his fits hits a wall. ]

Not allowed to be you! Not allowed to be me! Every thing leads back to your dumb face and there's nothing I can do about it!

Vanitas...

[it's fine if he breaks an appliance, ven doesn't even react when it crashes to the floor or even when vanitas punches at the wall. he can feel chirithy flood with concern and worry as vanitas keeps pacing around the room. ventus squeezes them to his chest for a moment before chirithy disappears in a small puff of smoke and then reappears at vanitas' feet. they look up at him, little eyes turned in worry.]

We can go forward together, Vanitas. I'll wait for you for however long it may take until we can all be together again.

[ventus steps closer, hands clenching at his sides.] Vanitas, I... I know I can't give you promises or- or anything like that yet, but I am going to make this right. For both of us.

[ The only reason he stops is because Chirithy is right there. Apparently not even Vanitas has it in him to step on the Spirit. Maybe not right now. He quiets, at least. Darkness gradually ebbing a little. There's no immediate threat now, at least. ]

You can't. There's no making it right. There's no together again.

[ When he turns, it's to jab Ventus in the chest. ]

It's not broken anymore! He's all healed up with no fissures or missing pieces left!

[ There's no room for him. That hangs silently in the air, thick and tense. ]

Coming here was a mistake.

No, there's no together again for us. Not like how we used to be.

[even ven can't hope for something like that. they'd both changed too much to go back together neatly, two puzzle pieces warped and distorted by time.

he touches the spot that vanitas had stabbed with a finger, brows knitting together.]

If I can be healed then so can you, Vanitas. I'm not going to give up on you, not again.

[ventus fixes him with a hard look, determination behind his gaze. then, with some hesitation he holds a hand out palm up. he doesn't expect vanitas to take the offered hand, but ventus doesn't care.]

Even if... even if I need to sift myself apart again for you. I will.

...You're not going to break off your mended heart for me, Ventus. No one is going to let you do that.

[ Not for Vanitas. They'd tell him it's a bad idea. A waste of time. ]

And you should give up on me. I'm not your friend. Not one of your little guardians. I don't need your pity or your charity.
