I'm so sorry to bother everyone again, but... um... I have a question?

[ Connie is himself for once when broadcasting, apparently feeling better and better about showing his true face to everyone. He's holding a bit of stick incense in his hand, absently twirling it. ]

Is there... is there any way to measure how much gold is in chroma? I have... the evil kidnapping foxes, they killed my ferret, and I need her back, but the spell is... it needs a component of incense, charcoal and herbs worth a specific amount of gold, and I'm not sure how to balance that in our... money.

[ He sighs, rubbing the back of his head and kind of getting the stick tangled in it. ]

I haven't actually done this without my master. Do summoning spells even work, here?

[ He really hopes so, he misses Grace a lot. ]

Interesting question, is there an exchange rate for gold in this world?

Are you trying to bring your ferret back to life?

I'd offer you gold, but it sounds like the kind of spell you're using requires a bit of sacrifice and the gold wouldn't be returned, is that correct?

Huh. Sorry about your ferret, that really sucks. For what it's worth, summons do seem to work here.

[ we're just gonna... gloss over the part about casually raising the undead. that... that's fine ]

You can't estimate based on how much you'd pay for the stuff in gold? Say if you've got an apple, you'd pay 1 gold but it costs 2 demichroma here, that's a 1:2 ratio. Pretty simple math from there.

Ah, that clears things up a bit. Another question, if you don't mind my asking, where would you be summoning this ferret spirit from?

Can you brute force it? Just get more'n you think you'll need, get your friend back, then just...keep the rest?

I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to buy a summoning item from the shop if you have the resources. Less guesswork involved that way.

[ Cehd'ra's taking blind guesses, the magic he's used to doesn't need components...and even then he's not a mage. Still he'll put on a confident smile for the camera. ]

Worst case, you've got all the herbs for your cookin' you'll need for the rest of the twelvemoon, fair better case your friend's gained a few ponzes.

[ oH NO it's a word problem, send help. if Connie has 100 apples... fortunately, Connie looks young enough to have somehow activated this grumpy old man's long-dormant teacherly instincts. ]

If you're not great at math, it'd be easier to find something common in both worlds that costs maybe 1 or 2 gold, some easy number like that. Then you'll know 1 gold = x amount of demichroma.

Best to count in demi I'd say since that's a tangible thing, and easier to wrap your head around than chroma in a way.

The Ware Wolf Shop sells things like dimensional orbs and summonrock chalk, not sure what would best apply, but it could be useful in your case.

Oh, that's a tricky one. I haven't had to think about components much, spell focus and all... [ Mayhem taps a finger on their lips under the veil, thinking. ] I wish my wizard friend was here, I'm sure he's got some kind of universal value system worked out for this stuff when he summons his familiar, he's that kind of person.

Can't say about summoning specifically, but all the magic I've tried has worked fine, so I'd be optimistic about that part. Has she been able to pop in and out normally while she was around?

It sounds like whatever dimensional stuff they use to travel is working right, at least - hopefully that means we'll be able to reach the Feywild, too.

I guess the only real thing to do is try, right? I don't know where you're at with resources or what incense and such actually costs around here, would trial and error be a big waste? Because if it were me, I'd just start with an amount that looks right for at home, and if that doesn't work get more next time until it does.

I suspect it's better than potentially butchering a spell if you're uncertain. I'm not sure what the rules of magic are in where you are from, but playing around with magic is...reckless...where I'm from. Wondrous as it is.

And you mentioned it was complicated.

Chaotic doesn't sound promising, have you had regular magical instruction?

Ah...yes, I can imagine her loss is painful, but it's best not to take the dangerous route if you are uncertain.

Randomly learning magic, now that's new to me. I know I was nine years old when my magic manifested which is quite young, but there are circles of magi where I come from and I caught on quick.

Just randomly learning though, do you have a predisposition for magic that you are aware of?
