It depends on the STI. There's one that severely compromises the immune system, to the point that people suffering from it have vastly reduced life expectancies.

Besides, a claim like that would fall apart pretty quickly.
A belief that protection is unnecessary leads to not bothering if it's inconvenient, and all it would take is one pregnancy to prove the falsehood.

And if we learn they've been lying about pregnancy, it would follow that they're also lying about STIs. That bad faith would create a friction that would be very much against their interests.
