Filing, typing, managing calendars. Answering phones and fetching coffee. It’s not a bad life.

[ it’s just not her life, and she bristles when anyone at the agency behaves otherwise. ]

Just as I’m certain it’s not a bad life for some of the women who put themselves under a shogun’s care, like you’ve described. But I can’t believe it’s for everyone. I’d sooner take my chances elsewhere.
mucked: (☂ knowing it all this time)

[ —this is tricky. there’s a fire in her, a real stoked fury, that wants to come out strong and explain to konoha that there are no men’s jobs and women’s jobs. only jobs—some of which happen to be dominated by one or the other.

but that’s not konoha’s fault, and making this into a bigger conversation than it needs to be helps no one. so instead, with consideration: ]

Are you talking about your farm?
mucked: (☂ soon to be out of sight)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ah, see, that’s what she likes to hear… ]

People are often surprised by the jobs they can do, I think, if only given the chance.

Do you like being the yard’s foreman?

[ in the end, that’s what matters most. ]
mucked: (☂ ever so patiently)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You’re leaving the lumber yard?

[ she asks because she can’t be certain—with konoha’s typing, it could simply be a misunderstanding. perhaps she means that being here, being stuck on this planet, is like leaving the job and that’s why she feels regret. ]

But surely there are still jobs in his village. If you wanted one.
mucked: (☂ the colder the night gets)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ aha. ]

Plenty of jobs, then. But by a different definition. Sounds like you’ll be kept plenty busy.
mucked: (☂ for three good reasons)

The feeling is quite mutual. I go a bit batty when there’s no work to be done.

[ which makes being here particularly difficult, as she can’t quite buy into the same institutions here that, on the surface, would seem like such a good fit. ]
mucked: (☂ waiting for the hint of a spark)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly. Probably, given I’m in no rush to make my living moonlacing.

But in both quarters—livelihood and chroma generation—there’s nothing more important than finding the right fit.

[ the right workplace and/or the right partner, essentially. ]

—Something physical. Something active. I can’t stomach staying chained to a desk.

[ should she simply come clean? it’s not as though it’s much a secret anymore given what everyone from her home already knows about her. ]

Back home, I jumped straight from school to a career in the military. There was a war—and once it ended, I made something of a lateral move into law enforcement.

The closest equivalent here might be the city's Moon Knights—except I can't say I'm keen to join them.

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-12 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I’m indifferent to the Moon Knights.

[ well—that might be generously put. in reality, she’s downright suspicious of them. ] Which is as good a reason as any to not pledge my service.

[ read: duty isn’t something she takes lightly. ]
mucked: (☂ point is i have the right)

A soldier of fortune?

[ what a novel idea. though it does worry her a little—she’s best accustomed to serving a state, a cause, a people. she lives off her convictions. but konoha…well, konoha is trying to be helpful. the woman exudes helpfulness. ]

It’s worth considering.

Like Miss Marple!

[ go on, konoha, ask. you know you want to. let peggy introduce you to a wonderful world. ]

A fictional detective. One of of the greatest, in fact. Created by the unequaled Agatha Christie I wish I had a book to share…

[ hm. ]

The only Christie I’ve got is a Poirot story. He’s alright, naturally, but he’s no Marple.

[ —and just like that, they’ve stumbled across something peggy is legitimately enthusiastic about. ]
