I know this is probably a bit of a stupid question, but I'm actually mildly curious. And you know what they say: 'curiosity killed the cat'.

So, my birthday is tomorrow and I'm turning eighteen, finally. . . To be honest, birthdays aren't as big of a deal, which is why I want to know if there's anything special that people do for their eighteenth? Or just birthdays in general.

I'm interested in how other worlds celebrate, after all.

What's so special about 18 specifically

In a lot of countries - not mine, though - the age of majority is eighteen. You're basically considered an 'adult' at that age.

what pattern you get depends mostly on region and your family traditions too

Well, usually I went with my family for a family dinner, and it was usually a school day, so the club celebrated it after school with a small party. They're not here though, so it's not like I can do that.

In Fodlan, it is customary to offer flowers to birthday recipients. Often it is a great time to invite them to tea as well.

18 also seems about right for being recognized as the lord of your own estate.

Flowers, huh. That seems pretty simple, but I guess if you gave specific kinds of flowers, it'd matter more. Inviting people out to tea is surprising, though.

back home my brother and i would just have a christmas-birthday party because we were broke and our birthday is the 27th

but i havent been home in like two years so i have no idea what to do for my 18th

From what I heard, most people back home would probably just have a stupidly big party thrown for them or something when they turned eighteen.

Unless they're rich, then that's just something that happens every birthday.

Grats on becoming an adult! Turning 18 is a pretty big deal where I come from, and people used to celebrate it with a big party.

This changed in the recent years and what we do is that the celebrant writes their life story up to that point. They mention their dreams, aspirations, hopes and wishes, and they speak before a group of selected people - witnesses if you will - who wrote down things about the celebrant, hopes and wishes and such, as well but aren't read aloud.

Then the letters are placed in a time capsule and buried with a growing tree sprout and when the tree grows in five or so years, it's dug up by the same people involved and the unread letters are finally read to the celebrant. More letters with new wishes are written, and then sealed and buried once again to be opened in another five or so years.
