I'm not sure just how big the Japanese populace is here, but I'd like to send an invitation to play shogi. I do have a certain friend whom I play with every week, but it would also be nice to get to know more people—both through conversation and through a game. I also have a chess set, for those who don't know how to play shogi, so please let me know if you're interested.

[ He keeps it a secret that he's never lost in a game of shogi... or chess... or anything else that isn't basketball, really. u_u ]

My other inquiry is a little far off from board games. I was wondering - if you were given the chance to forget something about yourself, would you take it? [ He lets out an amused chortle, a little obvious that he's hiding something. Akashi is not the best of liars. ] It's a thought I've considered more than once now... I was hoping to get an outsider's point of view.

[ dextera basically spent the first several years of his life playing chess and doing precious little else. he has not a clue how to play shogi, but chess is something he feels remarkably confident in thanks to all that time spent thinking, and he’s really hurting for people to play with.

That's kind of a touchy subject, isn't it? Forgetting things, I mean.

[The interior view of Reimi's apartment — what can be seen of it from behind her, at least — is...incredibly bland. As a matter of fact, it's virtually identical to how it was when she initially walked through the doors and took it as her own, which is largely because that's exactly what happened. Very little personality, very little conscious decor; it's a little bit like she hasn't really accepted that it's hers yet, and she's still living as though she's a visitor inside it.

Here and there, however, her golden retriever Arnold can be seen shuffling around, crunching on food or sniffing at something or appearing briefly to shove his nose into camera view and investigate what Reimi is doing.]

I haven't had that chance myself. And there are definitely things that I wish I didn't remember. But I wouldn't choose to forget them, even if someone gave me the chance. Because...for one thing, just because I don't remember them doesn't mean everyone would forget, and it'd make things really hard on those other people to be the only ones who remembered something I'd completely forgotten. And for another thing, I'd feel kind of like I was running away.

So, I don't think it's right to turn your back on things like that, even if it's hard to live with them. I think it'd be worse to forget.

We've yet to meet in person, but we're seeing each other now for the first time. I hope you're doing well.

I haven't played shogi in a long time, though. Where'd you manage to find a set?

It was like that in the previous world I was in. It's interesting to find these common threads.

I managed to arrive here with a set. A friend had it custom-made for my birthday.

I am always interested in a game. I should note I've played competitively, so I won't go easy on you.

I welcome the challenge. Were it not for basketball, I'd likely be in the shogi club in my school.

Oh! I enjoy both, though I can't say I'm very good at them. Still, strategy games are fun.

As for memories I don't want to forget any of them. I've lost them before, and now having them back, even though they are not always pleasant, I wouldn't change having them.

Good or not, I'd still like to play with more people. Would you be interested in a game some time?

For your other question... I don't think I would. Who we were and who we are is a combination of experiences, ideals, and preferences. Forgetting one thing about yourself would change that. You never know, you might be worse off, or much unhappier for it, to say nothing of the impact it might have on the people in your life.

[That's just what she thinks, though, dwelling in a world of what-if's.]

I think if anything, there are things that I might like to change about myself, to improve, or grow from.

What if there are people you are about who don't like something about you? Wouldn't it be best to discard memories of what they don't like in the first place?

I once had amnesia and forgot everything about myself. It feels bad, drawing a blank every time I wanted to remember something. [And whenever she did remember something, it was always bad for her case OOPS.]

May I ask how you got your memories back?

[ He also wants to ask how she got amnesia in the first place... Are they close enough for that? Who knows. ]

I prefer chess, but I'm pretty good at shogi, too.

As for forgetting...no, I don't think I would. My past, and my mistakes, are what shaped me into who I am today. Erasing any of that would impede my ability to grow as a person, and might even lead to me doing the same thing I chose to forget about.

I have no preference on what to play. I'm more experienced in shogi, but I've still never lost in either game.

[ Okay, maybe he's flexing a little. ]

That's what I think, as well. What I'd like to forget isn't necessarily a mistake, but a part of my life that other people don't really like.

Can't help you that much with Shogi. I've played it, but I'm more of a video games kind of guy.

No. I wouldn't choose to do that. Having a hole in your memory is...terrible.

Ah, shogi and chess are both board games? What kind of, if I may ask?

There's a game called Pai Sho in my world that is meant for two players. I miss playing it, so I wondered if I'd find something similar here.

They are board games, technically. Although compared to Snakes and Ladders or Monopoly, others may find it more boring.

[ And it turns into "bored game". ]

Both chess and shogi deal with strategy and logic. Each player has various pieces and each piece moves in a specific way and has a different role.
