<span style="font-family:courier new;”>—Is it difficult? Trying to maintain a relationship in a place like this?</span> <small>[ a personal question, perhaps, but she’s curious… ]</small>
mucked: (☂ we tried to dig a decent grave)

omg my trashed html.

[ if only (she thinks) that might be enough for everyone. simply being honest—and always forgiving. peg isn’t certain she can be that sort of person. infinitely patient; impressively good.

but she’s glad to hear that there are those who can be. ]

I’m so very sorry, Konoha. I can only imagine how much more eager this must make both of you to be back home. Assuming that being here is the only thing standing in your way.

[ she can’t relate—not exactly—but she can feel sympathy. ]
mucked: (☂ it's nothing to cry about)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-03 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ goodbye problem of other people from same place—mmhm, peggy couldn’t have put it better herself. ]

I’ve got unfinished business. That’s reason enough to want to go back home.
mucked: (☂ but you've got your demons)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-04 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ hmm. she thinks about her answer—and decides to go with the simplest truth that still doesn’t reveal too too much. ]

I work for a federal agency. [ but maybe that’s too specific, too cryptic for someone whose world might not follow the same structures. ] For the government. Nothing too exciting—[ she lies ]-but if I’m not there to do it, I doubt the work would ever get done.
mucked: (☂ or see it from this way round)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-05 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Women do, yes. Although, if you ask me, it’s not nearly enough.

[ she brushes off the compliment—not because she doesn’t want to accept it, as peggy does think she’s rather competent thank you very much—but because it’s simply not the thrust of the conversation. ]

It’s easy to feel outnumbered.

Rather depends on one’s department. The secretarial pools are practically all women. Typists, too. But in other lines of governmental work, and in other capacities, there’s far far fewer. Back home, I was working out of a satellite office with only one other woman on roster.

[ that said, she’s convinced that rose could out-agent all the rest. given the opportunity. ]

What’s expected of a shogun’s private woman?
mucked: (☂ 'cause the hypnotist entranced him)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-07 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
A secretary shouldn't be like a servant. But I'll admit that they're often treated as one.

[ —not that there's anything wrong with being a servant. one of her dearest friends happens to be her other dearest friend's butler. that said, that's not the life that secretaries signed up for. ]

And they most certainly aren't expected to give their employers children. I can't say we have positions...like those. In the government.
mucked: (☂ old dogs)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-10 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Filing, typing, managing calendars. Answering phones and fetching coffee. It’s not a bad life.

[ it’s just not her life, and she bristles when anyone at the agency behaves otherwise. ]

Just as I’m certain it’s not a bad life for some of the women who put themselves under a shogun’s care, like you’ve described. But I can’t believe it’s for everyone. I’d sooner take my chances elsewhere.
mucked: (☂ knowing it all this time)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ —this is tricky. there’s a fire in her, a real stoked fury, that wants to come out strong and explain to konoha that there are no men’s jobs and women’s jobs. only jobs—some of which happen to be dominated by one or the other.

but that’s not konoha’s fault, and making this into a bigger conversation than it needs to be helps no one. so instead, with consideration: ]

Are you talking about your farm?
mucked: (☂ soon to be out of sight)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ah, see, that’s what she likes to hear… ]

People are often surprised by the jobs they can do, I think, if only given the chance.

Do you like being the yard’s foreman?

[ in the end, that’s what matters most. ]
mucked: (☂ ever so patiently)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You’re leaving the lumber yard?

[ she asks because she can’t be certain—with konoha’s typing, it could simply be a misunderstanding. perhaps she means that being here, being stuck on this planet, is like leaving the job and that’s why she feels regret. ]
mucked: (☂ moves in mysterious ways)

[personal profile] mucked 2020-02-11 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
But surely there are still jobs in his village. If you wanted one.
