but say that things seem normal and are going pretty good and then you have to tell someone else what happened
like how do you deal with that when you're pretty sure the other end of the phone is on fire or something

Calling bullshit on that one. It's way too hyper-specific for it to just be some made-up thing when you're also asking another question.
Anyway, you just say what you have to.

My partner and I have spent the last fifteen years of our lives in each others company and for a few years straight, every day and night.
I'm thirty-five and he's a year older than I am.
Depends on the tone you take I guess. I tease a lot and he doesn't mind it.

Hell if I know what I'd do. I do like to see him flustered sometimes, so maybe.
Either way, people are different.
If it bothers you tell them or you're not going to get what you want out of your relationship.
