This is The Knight.

I wish to talk about families.

What is your family like? Do you have siblings? I have many siblings. More siblings than there are moonblessed. One of them is here with me. They are also a knight. They were one long before I was, and they are very good at it.

I have a child. They were not born by mating, as humans do, but by a dance with myself and my friend Grimm. It was part of an important ritual.

My Father is a King. My Mother is a Tree. Also a Queen.

That is all of my family. Please tell me about yours.

I have my mother and my father though.
My father is a shrimp and my mother is a lobster.
She can't take on a separate form like my father and I can.
They're absolutely wonderful. Very kind and doting people.

My mother and father are dead.

I have a younger brother. We share the same mother, but my father was not his. And for this, my father had always resented him.

But my brother is someone I'd gladly kill for.

I had some aunts and uncles, some distant cousins. We've never been too close, and outside of court business, mostly see one another on holidays and other special occasions.

I also have two children. I had hoped for a few more, but I was never so lucky.

My sister has a different mother. But we do not resent her. My sibling and I love her.

She would kill before we could, though.

Children are good. I did not not know I would like having one before I participated in the ritual with Grimm.

We are not related by blood, but I have someone who is like a sister to me. She is very responsible, wise, and kind! She has a disease in her lungs that formerly made many things painful and difficult for her, but thanks to a new type of treatment she recently began, her symptoms have almost entirely disappeared!

Only nearly as complicated as asking about my age.

One could argue that all beings of celestial stock are related, all having been created by the same entity. Most of us don't hold that to be the case, and didn't even before Lucy's snit fit split the ranks. Once he did, Hell doesn't foster that level of trust, and Heaven's no better.

As far as I know Lucy's the only one of us who's tried the whole child thing, other than God Herself, and that blew up in his face rather spectacularly. [Crowley couldn't be prouder of Adam, for all he was tangential to the kid's life except for about two minutes of really intense career advice.]

That is similar to me and my siblings. But Mother did birth us before Father change us. So it is not an argument that I and them are all family.

I'm the only surviving member of my family.

Though my mother passed away while I was still very young, I am proud of her. She was an exceptionally talented artist.

I do not know much about art. But there was much of it in Hallownest. Most was damaged or destroyed.

My father taught me to play shogi - if you're familiar with chess, shogi operates on similar rules, but features a slightly bigger board and more flexibility in the use of captured pieces. He used to play professionally, and I intend to follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated to the point where he had to retire.

My mother... has never been a pleasant person. Some days I think she's only happy when everyone else around her is miserable. For a time she attempted to manage my career as a means to vicariously live out her own lost dreams through me, never mind that I wanted no part of that kind of fame, or that she did my actual career a fair amount of damage. She's since been persuaded to back off of that, at least, but I'm still trying to repair my reputation at home.

Everything this place chooses to be would drive her up a wall. I consider that a major selling point.
